Time here does not flow as it should; it lies on its side, suspended, defiant, vulnerable. With hat in hand, the Traveller acknowledges what cannot be controlled — the stillness between past and future. Our very conception of time is ancient: the Egyptians already divided the day into 24 hours, while the Babylonians gave us 60 minutes and 60 seconds. To stand before time, then, is to face thousands of years of human measure — and something far older, that no measure can contain.
